Assisting you in making your healthcare practice, business or organization welcoming and affirming for your LGBTQ+ patients, staff & community.
The LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) community face significant discrimination when seeking healthcare services. LGBTQ+ patients experience refusal of care, intentional misgendering, un-acknowledgement of same-gender partners, and overall lack of knowledge in regards to the unique needs of LGBTQ+ patients.
Many of us did not receive LGBTQ health education in our training. The lack of cultural competence within the healthcare system has contributed to the many health disparities the LGBTQ community faces, such as increased rates of suicide, substance abuse, STIs, HIV and certain reproductive cancers. As an Emergency Nurse of 14 years, I have seen first hand the ways the healthcare system is failing the LGBTQ+ community.
As a LGBTQ+ health educator, I will assist you to create an affirming and inclusive practice, organization or business. This training will benefit your LGBTQ patients and staff, as well as your overall business mission to provide quality care. This presentation will include terminology, health disparities and communication tools. You will be provided with resources to improve your practice and organization.
